Tiger Airways is a low cost airlines service that is operating from Singapore with Singapore’s Changi Airport as its main hub. The main destinations it covers are China, India, Australia and Southeast Asia. Though the airline was formed in 2003, the first service occurred only in 2004. Being the first to fly out of Changi Airport’s budget terminal, the fare structuring of the airlines has many similarities with that of Ryanair.

Because of the high stake hold of Singapore Airlines, Tiger Airways is seen to operate for SIA whenever there is a drop in SIA services. The same was seen when the airways took over the services to Macau and also to Krabi, when SilkAir suspended its services to these locations due to various reasons. The airline was the first low cost carrier from Singapore to get a Chinese aviation authority permit to have services to cities like Shenzhen, Haikou and Guangzhou. It was an immediate success, which made them increase the flights in that route.

Though the airlines is based in Singapore, it also has partners owned by its parent company, Tiger Airways Holdings in Australia and has small stakes in Mandala Airlines and South East Asian Airlines (SEAir). Currently the airline focuses its market within a five hour radius from Singapore. All in all it has services to 10 countries with 28 listed destinations. The airways had utilized the open sky agreement between Thailand and Singapore and made Thailand one of its first main markets with four destination cities. It also serves some of the major cities in its neighboring countries like Malaysia, Great China, India, Philippines, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
